Atta girl, but...
Re: "Atta girl, chick" in Daily News Public Forum, April 5:
I also applaud Controller Laura Chick for watching out for the taxpayers money and blowing the whistle on the den of corrupt bureaucrats. Unfortunately for "we, the people," she didn't have the same concern for us when she was "working" on the city council wasting the taxpayers money. -=--=-=-=-= SacBee The honorable Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento) has set herself on the mission to tax soda pop. Like all good politicians, she is using the mantra "it's for the children" to paint the picture of those opposing her as to be insensitive and not caring about the children. There is no denying that we are becoming an obese and sedentary nation, adding tax to an item does not make it safer nor healthier. Despite the multitude of taxes imposed on tobacco and alcohol, the use and abuse of these products still kill and ruin lives. Like usual, it's all about how deep in our pockets the ruling class can shove their hands in. If Senator Ortiz (and her colleagues) concern was really about the children, the logical first step would be to ban the sale of soft drinks, candy, fast food and other fatty foods at publicly funded schools. The second step banning those same products plus alcohol & tobacco at all publicly funded buildings, meetings and parties. Lead by example, the old method of "do as we say. not as we do" has never been proven successful. What's next? A "breathing tax" on those of us that live in the city and breathe the unhealthy smog? |
